How is canthoplasty surgery performed?

Epicanthoplasty (Inner corner)

An incision is made along the shape of the front of the eye, the skin is dissected, and the procedure is performed by repositioning or removing the Mongolian fold. The extent of the opening may vary depending on individual eye shape and structure, but generally, an enlargement effect of about 1 to 3 mm can be achieved.

Lateral canthoplasty (Outer corner)

At the point where the upper and lower eyelids meet at the outer corner of the eye, the ligament that holds the eye shape is cut horizontally and fixed to the periosteum during surgery. It creates an effect of appearing at least 1 to 2 mm larger, and there is almost no chance of the tissue re-adhering after surgery.

Lower canthoplasty

An incision is made in the conjunctiva inside the outer corner of the eye, the corner is lowered to the desired extent, and then it is fixed and sutured. If only the skin is pulled, side effects such as eyelid eversion (turning outward) may occur; therefore, the muscle is pulled so that the skin descends along with it during surgery.

Upper epicanthoplasty

The skin covering the front part of the eye where the Mongolian fold is located is lifted upward at a 45-degree angle, allowing the double eyelid line to be exposed from the front. By exposing the pupil that was covered, the eyes can be corrected into a more open and distinct appearance.
