Sagging breasts are classified into four grades according to the degree to which the nipple droops relative to the inframammary fold.
The normal position of the nipple is located above the inframammary fold, and if it is located below this line, it can be classified as ptosis (sagging breasts). How is sagging breast correction surgery performed?
Grade 1 ptosis
Because breast augmentation alone has the effect of lifting the areola by around 4 cm, in the case of grade 1 breast ptosis, sufficient results can be achieved with augmentation surgery and dual-plane type 2–3 techniques alone.
Grade 2 ptosis
In many cases, sufficient results can be seen only when an additional surgery to correct breast ptosis while reducing stretched skin through a periareolar incision is performed along with breast augmentation.
Grade 3 ptosis
In severe grade 2 or grade 3 cases, a mastopexy (breast lift) must be performed via a periareolar incision combined with a vertical incision or an ”inverted-T” incision to achieve sufficient results.
