Tumescent solution is injected into the subcutaneous fat layer using a cannula (2–3 mm thick) through a skin incision.
Tumescent solution is a diluted mixture of local anesthetic (lidocaine) and a vasoconstrictor (epinephrine), injected in an amount 1 to 2 times the volume of fat to be aspirated. The roles of the tumescent solution at this time are as follows:
- As the wetting solution permeates into the subcutaneous fat layer beneath the skin, the subcutaneous fat expands, making the fat detach easily and allowing the cannula to insert smoothly, which facilitates fat suction.
- Local anesthesia is effective during and after surgery.
- Bleeding is reduced due to the effect of the vasoconstrictor in the tumescent solution and the compression of blood vessels caused by the injection of the solution.
- Because a portion of the wetting solution is absorbed systemically, it reduces the required volume of intravenous fluids caused by fluid deficits following liposuction.
15 to 20 minutes after injecting the wetting solution, the cannula is inserted through the incision into the subcutaneous fat layer to suction the fat.
Aspiration is performed by moving the cannula back and forth, fanning out in multiple directions from a single incision to ensure even suction.
Especially when performing ultrasound-assisted liposuction, heat is generated at the probe; therefore, a skin protector is attached to the incision wound to protect the skin, and the probe is moved continuously to prevent burns.
When deciding the end point of suction, observing the overall contour is the most important factor. In addition, the skin thickness is checked through a pinch test, and the aspiration time and volume are evaluated.
After suturing the incision wound, apply even pressure to the surgical area using a compression bandage or an abdominal binder.

Pre/Post-Operative Precautions for Body Liposuction
Learn about the pre- and post-operative precautions for body liposuction.
If taking medications that affect bleeding tendencies, such as aspirin, steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, or anticoagulants, you must stop taking them 2 weeks before surgery.
Please inform us in advance if you have low blood pressure, anemia, or bleeding disorders.
Avoid vigorous movements or sudden changes in posture.
Swelling may persist for 2 to 3 days after surgery, but it gradually subsides. To prevent swelling and bruising and to aid rapid recovery, the surgical area is compressed using elastic bandages. This compression management is maintained for 5 to 8 weeks post-surgery. You may wear an abdominal binder, girdle, pantyhose, or compression garments.
You can take a shower starting around 3 to 5 days after surgery. Usually, normal activities, including work life, are possible within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery, and all physical activities are possible after 4 to 6 weeks, once swelling and bruising have subsided.
